This project aims to draw from the spectacle of the city where we experience joy through sound, and to amplify that joy into a thoughtful object and spatial environment.
While drifting through the city, I chose to highlight the subtle spectacle that occurs when wind interacts with nature to create a respite. The trees, plants and bees dance to the tune of the wind — passing through this performance offers us a moment of peace and quiet from the bustle of the city.
This project took the shape of an object that highlights the subtle sounds of nature on a windy day. I chose to work with paper suspended on pins to allow for movement: ultimately landing on mylar paper for it’s lightweight and reflective presence. The ability of the material to reflect its surroundings is a nod to nature’s ability to reflect back to us our inner landscape.
The title of this project alludes to Gabriel Chaile’s site specific adobe sculpture for The High Line, titled “The wind blows where it wishes.”
